Northeast / North-Central Geological Society of America Meeting 2011

04/11/2011

Professors Rayburn, Bartholomew, and Vollmer traveled to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania with a group of students for the joint Northeastern (46th Annual) and North-Central (45th Annual) Joint Meeting of the Geological Society of America, March 20–22, 2011. New Paltz had a good showing at the meeting, presentations included:

ALLEN, Wai (Fort Lewis College), DAVIS, Emily (New Paltz), MORELLI, Katrina (California State, Montery Bay), VOELKER, Alyssa (University of Wisconsin), and RAYBURN, John: Characterizing the Fluvial Geomorphology of a Mountain River Watershed Using Multi-Scale Methods.

BARTHOLOMEW, Alex, and SCHRAMM, Thomas J. (University of Cincinnati, a New Paltz alum): Timing Of Faunal Turnover During The Middle Devonian Kacak Bioevent in the Eastern Appalachian Basin.

CAREY, Colin J.B. (New Paltz), ARNOLD, Emily G. (Mount Holyoke), DE SIMONE, David J. (De Simone Geoscience), KOZLOWSKI, Andrew L. (New York State Museum), and RAYBURN, John A.: Surficial Geology of a Critical Reach in Warner Creek, Phonecia, NY, and its Potential Impact on New York City's Drinking Water Supply.

SPENCER, Benjamin (Hobart & William Smith), PLATSKY, Allison Lee-Ann (New Paltz), CURTIN, Tara M. (Hobart & William Smith), and RAYBURN, John A.: A Record of Post-Glacial Relative Lake Level Fluctuation in the Seneca Lake Basin, NY.

HANSON, Kathleen (New Paltz), BARTHOLOMEW, Alex, HASELTON, Aaron (New Paltz Biology), and PARRY, Lauren E. (New Paltz Biology): Experimental Reconstruction of an Early Arthropod Trackway from the Middle Devonian Catskill Delta.

VOLLMER, Frederick W. (New Paltz): Best-Fit Strain from Multiple Angles of Shear and Implementation in a Computer Program for Geological Strain Analysis.

Authors Tara M. Curtin, Benjamin Spencer (Hobart & William Smith), John Rayburn, and Allison Lee-Ann Platsky (New Paltz) at their poster on post-glacial lake level fluctuation in the Seneca Lake basin, NY.

Katrina Morelli, Wai Allen, Alyssa Voelker, Emily Davis, and Dr. Rayburn at their poster on characterizing the fluvial geomorphology of a mountain river.

Kathleen Hanson, and Dr. Bartholomew at their poster on the reconstruction of an early arthropod trackway. This was jointly authored by Dr. Haselton of Biology, and Biology student Lauren Parry.

Emily Arnold and Colin Carey explain their poster on the surficial geology in a critical reach of Warner Creek.

Dr. Vollmer explains his research on best-fit strain from multiple angles of shear to Yvette Kuiper of Boston College.
