Geological Society of America Meeting 2013

Geological Society of America National Meeting, Denver Colorado 2013

Over a dozen New Paltz Geology faculty, staff, and students attended the week long Geological Society of America's National Meeting in Denver Colorado this October, where they presented research, and networked with colleagues and alumni. The annual meeting attracts thousands of geoscientists from around the world, and is one of the primer international venues for the presentation of geologic research. Numerous graduate schools, companies, and government agencies are represented at the meeting, giving our students numerous opportunities for graduate school and employment.

A highlight was the awarding of New Paltz undergraduate Sebastian Dirringer the Sigma Gamma Epsilon 2013 National Council Best Poster Award for his work with Dr. Vollmer on strain analysis. Sebastian is now a graduate student at Kent State University. A second award, the Sigma Gamma Epsilon 2013 Austin A. Sartin Best Poster Award, went to Brittany M. Klemm, a University of the Pacific student working on a collaborative project with Dr. Vollmer. Sigma Gamma Epsilon is an earth science honor society that gives out two annual awards; New Paltz student Melissa Gundersen was the recipient of the 2012 Austin A. Sartin Best Poster Award.

New Paltz undergraduates presenting their research included Emily K. Bowles, Tristan Craddock, Sebastian Dirringer, Lauren Leudemann, and Jonathan Valle. Geology Instructional Support Technician Donald Hodder gave a presentation with Dr. Chowdhury. Following is a list of presentations by New Paltz students, faculty and staff:
