Buddy Icons

Buddy icons are small images that appear in an America Online Instant Messaging (AIM) window as you chat with your friends, family and business contacts. They are the perfect way to reflect your personality, interests, and, in this case, your affiliation with SUNY New Paltz.

You do not need to be a member of America Online to use AIM, but you must have the AIM software installed in order to use these buddy icons. You can download and install the newest version of AIM from the AIM Web site.

NOTE: The instructions below do not work for the latest version of AIM Triton. They will only work for previous versions of AIM. The current version of AIM Triton doesn't allow you to select a buddy icon other than their preselected ones.

PC Users: Open AOL IM and log in with your username and password. Click the image, and click "OK" when prompted to by the dialogue boxes that appear.

Mac Users: Open AOL IM and log in with your username and password. Click and hold on the image, then choose "Save This Image As..." and save the image to the 'Buddy Icons' folder, located in the "AIM Files" folder in AOL Instant Messenger.
