First-Year Programs

The general objectives of our First-Year programs are two-fold: to ease the transition of first-year students to college life and enhance their education during the initial semester at SUNY New Paltz.

According to research undertaken by colleges throughout the country, and the experiences of students in our programs over the last five years, those who participate in First-Year programs tend to:

  • earn higher grade-point averages (GPAs) in their initial semester,
  • report higher levels of satisfaction with their educational experiences, and
  • return for their sophomore years at higher rates than do the students who forego these opportunities.
