Campus Safety & Security
The "Jeanne CLERY Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998," commonly referred to as the "CLERY Act," requires institutions of higher education receiving federal financial aid to report specified crime statistics on college campuses and to provide other safety and crime information to members of the campus community.
In addition, the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008 made several changes to the CLERY Act including fire safety information are hereby incorporated as part of State University of New York at New Paltz policy.
This policy was prepared as part of the university's commitment to security and safety on campus and to meet the requirements of the Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act of 1990 (amended November 1998 and renamed the CLERY Act and further amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008). This act requires colleges and universities to prepare, publish, and distribute to all prospective students, current students and employees information pertaining to the university’s security policies, procedures, programs and fire related data for the residence halls on campus.
