Faces of New Paltz
How did New Paltz prepare you for where you are today?
![]()
New Paltz provided me with exposure to free-thinking and objective educators. The college also provided me with excellent venues to explore not only my own history and culture, but the backgrounds of a diverse population. My years at New Paltz afforded me the opportunity to access a robust and meaningful education. Today, I am a woman who loves life, who walks with confidence and grace and who strives to provide for others what her ancestors provided for her: hope, a dream and people to share it with.
Extras:
Mentor at New Paltz: Professor Evan Walker and Professor Howard Johnson, both from the Black Studies Department.
Influences: The Black Studies Department faculty, as well as Harold Jacobs and the other members of the Sociology Department from my years at New Paltz.
Inspiration: All the other first generation people of color who were attending New Paltz along with me.
