How does participating in athletics enhance your education?

Being a part of the New Paltz soccer team has not only made me a better athlete, it has made me a better student. I have learned to manage my time better and create a schedule for the upcoming day based on what needs to be done. Playing on a team has taught me how to focus on two things throughout the academic year: schoolwork and soccer. All other distractions that other college students may face do not affect me: I have too many goals to achieve. Mainly, the drive I have on the field to be successful is the same that I apply my academics.

Traveling: As a freshman, I started my season in Italy with the team. It was such a wonderful opportunity to travel to Europe for the first time and play soccer with teammates I knew little about. They eventually became great friends of mine.

Inspiration: My friends and family at home who support me and come to my games all over to see me play. I try to do well on and off the field for them.

Awards and achievements: I was named Most Valuable Player for the 2007 season. I have also been named to the Honor Roll and Dean’s List, and am a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.
