Technology: An audience response system or clicker.

How are you using technology in your classroom?

Quotation markStudents will enter the workplace with numerous tools in the form of knowledge, skills and abilities. Technology plays a huge part in organizations today. Students who embrace, learn and stay current with the technologies being used in their field or industry will bring something to the table that may differentiate them from others in the context of employability and advancement. Students must take a proactive role in maintaining and honing this skill set, but I believe the professors can aid in exposure of technologies throughout their lectures, exercises and projects.

I am using an audience response system ( better known as clickers) in some of my courses. I have found this is a great way to engage the students in discussion by posing questions and collecting their feedback. I have also found this an effective way to administer quizzes and to aid in tracking attendance.

You can use the clickers to gather the opinions of students and as a checkpoint to see if the students comprehend the material being covered in class. The clickers can allow for team competition and can log the fastest respondent with the correct answer. This does help to engage and maintain the attention of the class, especially if you are lecturing.
