Faces of New Paltz
How do you help prepare students for life after college?
![]()
If I can do one thing here at New Paltz, it would be to open students’ eyes to the wonders of the natural world around them. All too often people pass through life without ever asking that all important question: Why? (Why is that mountain where it is? Why is that river there? Why is there this rock here, but not over there?) If I can ignite some spark of curiosity in my students, then I feel I will have done them a great service.
Extras:
Influences:
My parents for instilling in me a natural curiosity in the world around me and my adviser Dr. Carlton Brett for teaching me about the many joys of fieldwork and teaching geology.
Inspiration:
James Hall, the great New York paleontologist. To be working on the same rocks as Hall is inspiring and humbling at the same time.
Hobbies:
My wife and I really enjoy a hobby called letterboxing, a worldwide treasure hunt where we look for hand-carved rubber stamps hidden in a wide variety of places.
Little-known facts:
I play the bagpipes and am a member of the Eastern United States Grade III Champions and the Capital Region Celtic Pipe Band.
