Faces of New Paltz
Kent Yeung entered his first year at SUNY New Paltz in 2001after spending four years in the Navy. While on a six-month deployment in the Mediterranean, his unit was introduced to the sport of rock climbing and he was hooked. Kent's growing love for the sport ultimately led him to the cliffs at the Mohonk Preserve, just minutes from the New Paltz campus. "I rock climb because it's such an adrenalin rush," said Kent. "Every climb presents different challenges… its almost like chess, only with a physical aspect to it." His interest in the Mohonk Preserve is not limited to just climbing; Kent plans to perform an internship there during the Spring 2005 semester, applying the skills he has learned at New Paltz as a geography major.
In the meantime, Kent spends much of his time in the pool. As a varsity swimmer, he has captured the 100-yard backstroke title in the SUNY Athletic Conference Championships two years in a row and was twice awarded "men's swimming hardest worker."
