Faces of New Paltz
Soon after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Andy Evans traveled through Europe as an undergraduate hoping to witness history in the making. Inspired by his trip, he went on to receive both his Masters and Ph.D. in modern German history at Indiana University and finally to teach modern European history at SUNY New Paltz. His research focuses on the history of scientific racism in Germany.
Evans believes that as a professor, it is his role to encourage students to form their own valuable opinions. He feels that motivating students to approach problems with a critical perspective is crucial. His classes combine political history with a social and cultural approach designed to highlight the experiences of everyday people.
