Faces of New Paltz
Min Kyoung Choi is an international student with an international mindset. Min was raised in Korea, attended elementary school in England and spent her sophomore year of high school in Colorado. She came to New Paltz in 1998 and earned a BA in International Business as well as an MBA. During this time, she completed two internships in Indonesia, one at a law firm and one in finance. After completing her MBA, Min took a job with a Korean company teaching conversational English to adults and found that she really enjoyed it. Realizing that she wanted to teach English as a Second Language (ESL), Min decided to return to New Paltz to study Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Min now tutors ESL students nearby at New Paltz High School as well as ESL students in New Jersey. She is also very interested in Korean community centers and would like to develop an ESL program for senior citizens.
Why New Paltz: Min wanted to study in the United States and chose New Paltz because her aunt lived nearby. She decided to stay for three degrees because she found she really loved New Paltz.
Interests: Skiing, collecting stamps, and spending time with friends.
Influences: Her father, because he challenges her and has opened her up to a world of opportunities, literally.
Goals: Min hopes to develop an ESL program for senior citizens.
