Faces of New Paltz

As starter and middle hitter for the women's volleyball team at SUNY New Paltz, Christina Mazurowski has helped the team to its highest win total in five years.

Christina, who has been playing volleyball since seventh grade and has been on the volleyball team at New Paltz for the past three years, sees her teammates as a family and her experience on the team as an important part of her college career.

"Since the first day I came to New Paltz, volleyball has shaped my life at college," explained Christina. Here, she has learned to balance college classes, practices, workouts and team functions.

However, volleyball is not her only passion; Christina is an artist. As an artist interested in painting and drawing, Christina was drawn to the college's fine arts program.

"Going to a college with such an innovative and enriching art program is a dream come true for me," said Christina.

To supplement her work in the fine arts program, Christina studies math. She finds that it helps her develop ideas for her own artwork and allows her to better understand hidden patterns in other works.
