Environmental Geochemical Science Story

Collaborative Hydrologic Field Stations

10/14/2010

Dr. Shafiul Chowdhury (SUNY New Paltz) and Dr. Kirsten Menking (Vassar College) have been developing a hydrologic field stations to study surface and groundwater at the Vassar College Farm House. This collaborative field based exercises will be utilized by students from both campuses to determine aquifer characteristics (permeability of the sediment/rock, how much water available for pumping etc.) by conducting pump and slug test. This site will also be used to provide hands-on experience to determine stream flow measurement (stream gauging) and water quality characterization of surface and groundwater.
