Engineering Student Receives Scholarships
11/21/2008
Congratulations to engineering student, Christina M. Apatow! She has been chosen by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) to receive the General Motors Sophomore Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year in the amount of $3,000.00. The Scholarship Selection Committee reviewed over 500 applications this year in making their choices and Christina was one of the three recipients! Christina’s hard work has really paid off this year as she was also chosen by the SUNY New Paltz Foundation to receive the Thomas and Marie Bell Scholarship.

Besides being the founding president of our student chapter of SWE, she has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement (where she maintains a full-time 3.92 GPA) as well as strong engineering potential. This past summer she was our only student to do both summer research and have an engineering internship, where she very successfully performed as a research and development engineer. Outside of the classroom Christina leads a very ambitious life; she is an active member of the Student Association Senate, Academic Affairs Committee, Solar Car Electrical Engineering Development Team, Accounting and Finance Association, National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and the AMP (Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation) / C-STEP (Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program) Community.
