Jasko Begovic graduated on December 14, 2007 with a B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from SUNY New Paltz. Although he is a brand-new graduate, he already possesses a significant amount of industrial experience, which he obtained from an Internship at Wolf-tec. As Jasko explains, “Wolf-tec is a company that specializes in creating food manufacturing methods for meat, poultry, and seafood processors. I received my current internship through a recommendation from Professor Michael Otis.”

With justified pride, Jasko describes his internship experience: “My job was to design an embedded processor board (sort of a specialized micro-computer) to control food quality. The board I designed serves as a platform for various embedded system applications. One can program the embedded processor to do virtually anything that is within its processing power. Some examples include; an industrial timer, flow analyzer, and even a minimalist web server. Since it can interface with most sensors, the potential applications are vast.”

Of the role that his education at SUNY New Paltz had on his internship success, Jasko says. “The courses in Microprocessors, Embedded Systems and Electronics, provided a very good basis on which I could build. Without this solid foundation I would not been able to quickly get a good grasp on the challenges at hand.”

Finally, he tells us about his future activities: “I am planning to apply to a few graduate universities and I hope to pursue studies in Electromagnetics. A few of the professors are helping me in this process and I believe that the foundation and research experience I have received in New Paltz will serve as a very good base for future graduate work.”
