Professional Requirements

Transfer courses for which advanced standing credit has been given and which are comparable to those listed for these requirements may be acceptable under advisement.

Liberal Arts Prerequisites .......... 15 credits

  • MAT140 Mathematics for Elementary Teachers 1 (3)
  • MAT240 Mathematics for Elementary Teachers 2 (3)

Education Prerequisites....................12 credits

  • EDS340 Sociological and Philosophical Foundations of Education (3)
  • EDS371 Child Psychology and Development (3)
  • SPE350 Creating Inclusive Elementary School Classrooms (3)
  • EED370 Introduction to Education of Diverse Populations in Early Childhood and Elementary School Settings (3)[Must earn grade of B- or better]

Fieldwork Prerequisite: 30 hours of field experience in an elementary or early childhood learning environment.

NOTE: All above course work in Education and Liberal Arts MUST be completed before the Professional Semester.

  • EED380 Teaching Mathematics, Science and Technology in the Elementary School (6)

  • EED393/493 Fieldwork II/III

Student Teaching Semester ........... 12 credits In order to register for Student Teaching, the student must have received a grade no lower than "B-" in each one of the Professional Semester courses.

All courses must have a grade C or better, except EED370 or its equivalent must have a grade B- or better.
