PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Department of Educational Studies of SUNY New Paltz offers a Master of Science degree in Special Education. Teacher candidates pursue a program of studies in Early Childhood Special Education (Birth - 2nd grade), Childhood Special Education (1st through 6th grade) or Adolescence Special Education (7th through 12th grade). Applicants with initial certification in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education or Adolescence Education will complete 36 credit hours of course work. The programs are non-categorical and prepare teacher candidates to work with students with high incidence disabilities. Upon successful completion of the program, teacher candidates are eligible for NYS Education Department professional certification in Early Childhood Special Education, Childhood Special Education or Adolescence Special Education.
