Guidelines

Beginning in fall 2011,  the following are the guidelines for declaring a major in the Elementary Education Curriculum:

1. A 2.75 overall GPA
2. At least 30 college credits and no more than 75 (including in-progress) credits.
3. 30 documented by a director/teacher/supervisor fieldwork hours for appropriate age group (click here for pre-program fieldwork form).
   

   Some suggestions:
   Camps
   Substitute Teaching
   Teacher's Aide
   Afterschool programs
   Teaching Religious Education
   Fieldwork from Community Colleges
   (see Advisor for a complete list of acceptable hours)

4. Proof of fingerprint clearance.
5. A scheduled appointment with the Elementary Education Advisor - (845) 257-2807, Old Main B122.
6. Be prepared to declare an approved liberal arts major related to the teacher standards within the elementary education curriculum.
