Guidelines for Declaring Major

Guidelines

To enter the Early Childhood/Childhood Education B-6 program students must meet the following criteria:

  • Overall GPA of at least 2.75
  • At least 30 college credits and no more than 75 (including in-progress) credits
  • Grades of "B" or better in Composition I & II
  • Completion of On-Site Writing Sample (click here for dates)
  • At least 30 hours of Pre-Professional Fieldwork documented by a teacher/director/supervisor (form can be found here). Suggested types of fieldwork include:
    • Camp counseling
    • Substitute teaching or teacher’s aide
    • Afterschool programs
    • Coaching
    • Teaching religious education
    • Fieldwork from community colleges
  • Be prepared to declare one of the following liberal arts concentrations:
    • Art history
    • Biology
    • Black studies
    • Earth science
    • English
    • French
    • Geography
    • History
    • Mathematics
    • Political science
    • Spanish
