- Supply yourself! Textbooks and school supplies can get pricey, but they’re
a vital part of academic life. Whether you’re buying your supplies or
sharing with someone else, make sure you have what you need to succeed this
school year.
- Be prepared. Having your textbooks is just the first step; make sure to
read them and complete your assignments before heading to class.
- Go to
class. You can’t expect to succeed by studying someone else’s
notes -- go to class and participate.
- Stay organized. Get your hands on
a planner to keep track of assignments, appointments and important
events.
- Attend a workshop. The Psychological Counseling Center provides an academic
success program, which offers periodic workshops. [www.newpaltz.edu/counseling]

class, get a tutor.
- Have fun! Academics are a large part of college life,
but not the only part; make sure to take time out for yourself and spend
time with friends.
Check the events page for
fun things to do around campus.
- Join a club. An easy way to get to know
the campus better is to join a club. Each year, student organizations
hold general interest meetings. Find
an organization that interests you and attend its meeting.
