Ready for Registration

By Brittany Miller '07

It is time for registration – time to plan a little further into your future. Here are some helpful resources from the Dean of Academic Advising, Ann Minnick, to help you while developing your spring 2007 schedule:

  1. Check Your Requirements

Print a copy of your college progress report, which can be found in my.newpaltz.edu. By reviewing the document, you’ll be able to see what general education requirements you’ve fulfilled and what requirements you have left.

If you have already declared your major, check your specific degree requirements to see what classes you still have to take. Many departments have this information listed on their Web site.

  1. Review the Schedule of Classes

View next semester’s course offerings and look for classes that you are interested in taking that will fulfill your requirements.

  1. Make a Draft Schedule

List the classes you’ve chooses, as well as backups, and go to my.newpaltz.edu to download the planning worksheet (under Planning My.Next Semester).

  1. Deciding on a Major

Trying to decide what to major in? Our Deciding on a Major Handbook is the resource for you.

  1. Make an Appointment with Your Advisor

When you meet with your advisor, bring your progress report and draft schedule with you. After the two of you have discussed your selections, your advisor will give you your ARN number, which will enable you to register online.

    1. Don’t know who to go to? Go to my.newpaltz.edu, and then go to. Personal Records and select My.Advisor. It will show your advisors’ name, office, e-mail and telephone number. For tips on preparing to talk with your advisor, visit the Advising Registration Checklist
    2. Want to graduate on time? Use the new 8 Semester Plans.
  1. Remember to Register!

Go to my.newpaltz.edu to get your registration date and time (see My.Time Assignment). Remember to register for classes at your assigned time, so you have a better chance of getting into the classes you want.

  1. The services of the Office of Academic Advising, as well as the Career Resource Center, are available for all students.

For a full registration checklist, visit the Academic Advising Web site.
