What to pack or not to pack?

What to pack or not to pack?

How much is too much? It is the question that every college student faces when it comes to living on campus.

Moving-in Day for incoming freshmen and transfer students living on campus is Friday, Aug. 24.

List, wherefore art thou list?
A list is a great tool to get you started. Divided your list into categories such as clothing, personal items and non-perishable food. You can use it to make sure everything is accounted for as you begin your trip to New Paltz. The closer you get to the big day: revise! Your Housing Handbook contains a list of approved items, as well as the layout and measurements of your room.

Know thyself
Do you hold onto papers? It is essential to know what type of person you are when it comes to packing for college. You'll be sharing a room with at least one other person, so the fewer items you have, the better. If you don't hold onto papers, what's the sense of lugging a filing box?

A touch of home
Being away from home for the first time is tough. If you need something that reminds you of home, bring it. But don't pack your entire bedroom. Chose one or two meaningful pieces such as the teddy bear your mom gave you when you were five years old.

Meet and greet
And, if after all the planning and packing, you still forget something: Don't be shy, ask around. Someone in your hall is bound to have that mint gum you always bought at the local convenience store. Besides, it'll be a great way to meet the people you'll be spending the next few years with.
