Legislative Gazette

 

The Legislative Gazette, an educational project of the SUNY New Paltz located in the Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach (CRREO), is the premier public affairs reporting internship program in New York State. The semester-long program, offered each fall and spring, includes a political science seminar taught by Gazette Executive Publisher and Project Director Dr. Alan S. Chartock. Students are eligible to receive up to 15 upper division, undergraduate credits for their work and are compensated with a twice-monthly stipend.

The Legislative Gazette newspaper provides comprehensive coverage of the New York State Legislature and other key policy makers in Albany. Published 10 months a year, this weekly newspaper and its Web site, www.legislativegazette.com, cover the leading stories originating in the state capitol, and state news not found in other newspapers.

The Gazette program has operated since 1978. and numbers two Pulitzer Prize winners among its hundreds of alumni, In addition to journalism, Gazette internship graduates have gone on to careers in law, government and politics. Currently program alumni are working in the highest levels of state government and at publications such as The New York Times, the New York Post and the Washington Post.
