Psychological Counseling Center

Graduate Training Opportunities

The Psychological Counseling Center functions as a training site for the SUNY New Paltz MA Concentration in Counseling program, providing three levels of clinical training and supervision: Fieldwork 1, Fieldwork 2, and Fieldwork 3. See The Graduate School Web site.

During these experiences, graduate trainees develop their assessment, interviewing, listening, and counseling intervention skills as they work with clients under the supervision of PCC staff. Weekly staff clinical meetings provide important supervisory forum for counselors-in-training. Trainees participate in the PCC's Outreach Programs, developing and providing psychoeducational workshops for the college community.

The PCC has formal agreements with SUNY Albany and Adelphi University MSW programs to serve as a clinical training site. Application for these programs should be made directly to the originating academic department.

If you are a graduate student in counseling, social work, or a related field, and are interested in the possibility of applying for a clinical training experience at the SUNY New Paltz PCC, call (845)257-2920 and speak with the Director, Pam Atkins, Ph.D. or the Associate Director, Gweneth Lloyd, D.S.W.
