Dr. Andy Pletch named new department chair

07/13/2009

This summer, Professor Paul Zuckerman concludes 3 terms of service as the Department Chair.
Professor Zuckerman was instrumental in establishing the Computer Science program at New Paltz during the 1970s, leading to the creation of the Computer Science major within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Professor Zuckerman served as Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science during 1981-1987, a key period in the development of the Computer Science undergraduate and graduate programs.

Professor Zuckerman then served as the Chair of Dept. of Computer Science at its founding in 2000, and has now completed three terms as Chair. The Department thanks Professor Zuckerman for his devoted service to students, faculty, and the College and wishes him well as he returns to teaching full-time. The Department is pleased to announce that Prof. Andy Pletch will succeed Prof. Zuckerman as Chair. Prof. Pletch, who joined the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in 1984, is well-known for his innovative courses and his devotion to students; the Department wishes him well in his new endeavors.

Proessor Pletch and the entire department want to welcome faculty and students who are not already members of the Computer Science Department to check us out. We have something for everyone.
