The Hankel Matrix Method for Gaussian Quadrature
in 1 and 2 Dimensions

11/21/2008

During the Spring and Summer I 2008 semesters, New Paltz undergraduates Mauricio Almanzar (right) and Carlos Suero completed a research project entitled “The Hankel matrix method for Gaussian Quadrature in 1 and 2 dimensions.” Their work was funded by the SUNY Alliance for Minority Participation and the National Science Foundation, and supervised by Computer Science Professor Lawrence Fialkow.

To carry out their project, Mauricio and Carlos learned how to use the Mathematica software package, which does algebra with matrices and polynomials, and they learned how to use the LATEX software package for preparing their project report, which is posted on Prof. Fialkow’s web page.
