Changes At SUNY New Paltz In View Of The New New York State Regulations

The Department of Communication Disorders is pleased to announce the successful re-registration of its undergraduate and graduate programs. The programs are as follow:

M.S. in Communication Disorders- Audiology Concentration
Program Code 090A - 52-56 credits
NYS licensure qualification and ASHA certification

M.S. in Communication Disorders - Speech-Language Pathology Concentration
Program Code 090S - 52-56 credits
NYS licensure qualification and ASHA certification

M.S. in Communication Disorders - Speech and Language Disabilities Concentration
Program Code 090 - 65 credits
Initial and Professional Certificates - Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities, NYS licensure qualification, and ASHA certification

M.S. in Communication Disorders - Speech and language Disabilities Concentration
Program Code 090 - 30 credits
Professional Certificate - Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities, NYS licensure qualification, and ASHA certification
(for students who have completed the five-year undergraduate 790 major and earned the Initial Certificate)

B.A in Communication Disorders - Speech and Language Disabilities
Major Code 790 (5-year program) "Certification Track"
85 Credits (24 graduate, 31 undergraduate, and 30 undergraduate prerequisite)
Initial Certificate - Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities

BA in Communication Disorders
Major Code 588 - "Academic Track" - 48 credits

All undergraduate majors begin in the 588 "Academic Track" major. Admission to the 790 "Certification Track" major is by application only. Applications are due on March 1.
The 790 program:

  • guarantees admission to the graduate program as long as performance remains satisfactory (3.0 minimum gpa, satisfactory in practicum).
  • leads to BA (to be awarded in May "en-route" to the masters degree at the end of what would normally be the first year of graduate study).
  • meets all qualifications for the new Initial Certificate (TSSLD)
  • allows employment as a TSSLD.
  • leads to M.S. and the Professional Certificate (TSSLD) following 30 additional graduate credits and 200 additional clinical hours.
