Andrea Abramovich

Ms. Abramovich has her M.S. in Communication Disorders from The College of Saint Rose. Her first appointment at SUNY New Paltz was in 2003. She is a clinical supervisor and teaches graduate courses such as Voice Disorders and Augmentative Communication. Ms. Abramovich has provided speech and language therapeutic services to infants, children, and adults with a wide range of communicative disorders. She holds RESNA certification and is Regional Director of the Technology Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities (TRAID) program, which serves a five-county area.

My name is Inge Anema and I'm an assistant professor in the Communication Disorders program. I received my PhD in 2008 from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York. In addition to being an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist, I also hold certification in Germany and the Netherlands. I've extensive teaching experience in the US (SUNY New Paltz, Hunter), and the Netherlands (Hanzehogeschool Eindhoven). At SUNY New Paltz, I mainly teach the neurogenic adult courses and the research methods course. Related to the neurogenic courses that I teach is the Aphasia Support Group, a group practicum in which I collaborate with graduate students and participants with a variety of language disorders. My research interests are bilingual reading and psycholinguistic aspects of language processing, e.g. lexical retrieval in different populations. Lexical retrieval is investigated in my 'naming' research lab where undergraduate and graduate students are involved in a variety of projects.

Dr. Arnao is Coordinator of Audiological Services for the Speech Language and Hearing Center. Her areas of special interest are diagnostic audiology, hearing aid technology and aural rehabilitation. She received a Master of Science Degree in Audiology from Ithaca College and a Doctoral Degree in Audiology from Arizona School of Health Sciences at A.T. Still University. In addition, Dr. Arnao holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. She has been a member of the SUNY New Paltz faculty since 2001. Dr. Arnao teaches undergraduate courses in Introduction to Audiologic Rehabilitation, Clinical Methods in Audiology and supervises Clinical Practicum in Audiology for Speech Pathology graduate students.

Dr. Balant earned her Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center in 1991 and has been on the faculty since 1994. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in speech and hearing sciences and related areas. Her research interests are otoacoustic emissions, psychoacoustics, and noise control. Currently, she is coordinator of the Graduate Programs in Communication Disorders.

Professor Bower received her BS from Marywood University, her MS from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and is currently ABD in Literacy from the University at Albany. She has been on the SUNY New Paltz faculty since 1996. Ms. Bower teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses including: Introduction to Communication Disorders, Language Development in Children, Disorders of Child Language, Dysphagia, Early Intervention, Pragmatics and Language/Literacy Development. Professor Bower has a variety of clinical experiences with infants, children, and adults with a wide range of disabilities. Her special interests are literacy, language development, early intervention, pragmatics and swallowing disorders.

Dr. Liz Hester teaches voice disorders, phonetics, phonology, child language, and a course on the evolution of speech, language, and hearing. She received her Master's degree from California State University, Fresno, where she subsequently conducted clinic at Valley Children's Hospital in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She received her doctoral degree from Wichita State University, where she carried out research with Barbara Hodson on phonological production, working memory, and reading decoding. She has published research on child phonology and literacy and on the evolution of the auditory system. Her current research interests are focused on the study of the suprasegmental basis of speech and reading, particularly, the inclusion of music in the speech, language, and hearing clinic. She loves living in New York's Hudson Valley and enjoys hiking and skiing in the mountains nearby.

Dr. Losey received a Master of Science Degree and a Doctoral Degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, OK. In addition, Dr. Losey holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She joined the faculty at SUNY New Paltz in 2011. Dr. Losey serves as Director of the Speech-Language and Hearing Center on campus. She also teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and provides clinical supervision for students. Dr. Losey has over 30 years of experience in medical speech pathology.

Rebecca Swenson received her Masters Degree in Deaf Education from Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. and her Bachelors Degree in Theatre from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her first semester as a lecturer here at SUNY New Paltz was Fall 2008. She teaches courses in American Sign Language and Deaf Culture & Heritage. She is a certified Teacher of the Deaf and an American Sign Language Instructor. She has a diverse background working in a variety of educational settings.

Dr. Stella Turk is Associate Dean of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Coordinator of the Post-Baccalaurette Program in Communication Disorders and Coordinator of the Deaf Studies Minor. She received her Doctoral Degree in Audiology from Arizona School of Health Sciences at Still University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in audiology and aural rehabilitation and supervises clinical practica. Her first appointment at New Paltz was in 1995. Her special interests are universal infant screening, diagnostics, program and curricula development. Dr. Turk developed the universal infant screening program at Vassar Brothers Hospital, the Post BA program in CMD, the Deaf Studies minor and several and online and hybrid courses.

Mr. Brooks has his M.S. in Education from the City University of New York at Queens College with advanced studies at New Paltz, Southern Connecticut State University, and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He has been on the SUNY New Paltz faculty since 1994. He has provided speech-language pathology services to hundreds of school- aged children in both regular and special education. Mr. Brooks teaches undergraduate courses and supervises in the Speech-Language and Hearing Center. His special interests include child language development and communication disorder diagnostic processes.
