Information for Departments > Recruiting and Hiring Part-Time Faculty

You should anticipate your part-time faculty needs for the next academic year during the budget process early in spring semester. It is preferred that you put part-timers on a year-long contract when you can. Along with the ARF form, new part-timer documentation must include a transcript from the school where they earned their highest degree and at least two letters of recommendation. Returning part-timer ARFs must include SEIs and/or a written observation of their teaching. If a travel supplement* is requested, documentation supporting trip distance must be provided (e.g., MapQuest driving directions).

Occasionally the college does a general advertisement in a local or regional paper to recruit part-time faculty for several departments at once. This is usually announced through the dean's office.

It is important that part-time faculty feel they are part of the department and that they are teaching according to the established curriculum. Mentoring new part-time faculty is particularly important.
