We would like to remind you that, according to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), you must keep student records confidential. Only those with an immediate, specific, and job related reason may have access to student records. Status as a member of the faculty or staff does not by itself establish a right to access student information. Parents and spouses also do not have a right to such information, even if they are paying tuition of the student.
In addition to the above, please note the following practices also are prohibited by FERPA:
- Open evaluation of a student's work in the classroom
- Grading of student assignments by other students.
- Posting of grades by social security number, student college identification number, or any other method.
- The placing of papers and projects in public areas (hallways, lounges, department offices, etc.) where persons other than the student may have access.
