New Atomic Force Microscope Installed
11/03/2008
A new atomic force microscope (AFM) has just been installed in the Chemistry Department. This instrument is capable of imaging features at the nanometer (10-9 meter) scale. The instrument was purchased with a $250,000 grant from the National Science Foundation authored by chemistry professor Megan Ferguson along with Professors John Harrington and Pamela St. John, also from the Chemistry Department, and Maureen Morrow from the Biology Department. The AFM will be used by undergraduate students in research being done by these four faculty members as well as by students in courses such as Instrumental Methods of Analysis, Physical Chemistry Laboratory, and Cell Biology.
