Fadi Khawam graduated in May 2004 with a B.S. in Chemistry and since has been working at Ciba Specialty Chemicals in the Bioprotection department. His work at Ciba entails designing compounds that range from small molecules to polymers that exhibit antimicrobial activity. Among his many accomplishments at Ciba are filing for one US Patent (the other patent being in its final stage of production). While at New Paltz, Fadi presented two posters at American Chemical Society National meetings. He was the co-founder and later the president of the Acapella group on campus. Fadi started the graduate program at Seton Hall University this fall to pursue a Ph.D degree in synthetic organic chemistry with specialization in medicinal chemistry. His interests lie in the area of drug design and discovery. Fadi adds that “Another exciting moment is that I got engaged this summer”. Our best wishes to him.
