Our mission is to provide goods and services to enrich daily life at SUNY New Paltz
campus bookstore Half Back

The Half Back Solution: Make sure your professor ordered their books before finals. You can get half of current retail price for books ordered before final exam week. Even that bargain book you bought online may get half of the publishers current price if your professor requested it again.

Keep In Mind:

  • Textbook selection is made by the faculty.

  • New editions are decided by the publishers and the old edition loses it’s value quickly.

  • Buyback Price is determined by need

  • HALF BACK = books bought for campus bookstore inventory
A LOT LESS = books bought for and shipped to a national distributor to be sold to another campus.
ZERO DOLLARS = workbooks, custom published texts, new editions, self-published, package pieces

  • Prices are subject to change based on bookstore need.

  • A book can be rejected based on condition. Ask yourself if you would buy the book you are selling.

  • Make sure all CD(s) that came with the book are with the book.

  • Workbooks and lab manuals: Check for pricing. Most are worth 0, but if we can buy them they must be clean (no writing    and complete (all pages).

  • Access Codes are not reusable therefore the book can not be sold back at half if the professor requests the book and code. Access codes can be purchased separately, at very high publisher prices.
  •
  • Instructor’s editions or international editions are not eligible for buyback.

  • If your book(s) are not on these lists, it has value somewhere between half back and zero.

Encourage your professor(s) to turn in their textbook requisitions so we can get your book on the Half Back list.

The lists below are for Spring 2009 textbooks. Books from previous semesters (unless listed) will need to be brought in to the bookstore for buyback pricing.
