The Black Studies faculty has a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and community service. Faculty members are involved in scholarly research in such topics as the African presence in the mid Hudson Valley before 1800, African sub-strata in English, the history of Blacks in American Lingusitics, Black American literature, slavery and race relations in Brazil, Black communication, African history, deconstruction of the psychology of oppression and Black activism. The department's adjunct faculty are central to our program of study and add a depth of focus and breadth of experience to our offerings. The faculty are also devoted to the academic and cultural needs of Black Studies students.
