Biology Story

Summer Research is in Full Swing here in the Biology Department this summer -- and some projects are nearing completion.

07/28/2010

Our students are supported by grants from Merck/AAAS, the National Science Foundation (CSTEP), the Chemistry and Biology Departments, and the Provost's office (Summer Undergraduate Research Experience, SURE).

Olivia, Ghady and Eric working in the lab on their Merck/AAAS projects .....

Jacob and Nick in the lab .... and Eric (again) and Miles, in the field.

.... Sam and Mike (SURE), and Shaun (Merck/AAAS).

Shaun is working on the chemistry of the defensive ink secretions of the marine snail Aplysia (left) and on their chemoreceptive activity in the walking legs of predatory crabs (middle and right).

Left: CSTEP and Merck/AAAS students at Phillies Bridge farm collecting Cucumber and Colorado potato beetles (research with Dr Haselton). Right: CSTEP students reporting on their protein crystallization work with Dr Waldo.

Pre-summer Research Kickoff Party. OK, we party first and THEN work hard (hey, life is uncertain!)
