Ah yes, it's that time of year again when young entomologists are out in force. How can you identify an entomologist in the field?
Well, you will see them every where -- on campus, or off campus -- with their characteristic "nets" and "killing jars." Some (mostly males) also have characteristic "pith helmets."
You may find them digging around rotted logs, or "aspirating" small samples from tree trunks, or other surfaces.
Sometimes they turn over rocks! All the time looking for "insects" for their "collections."
And then there is that self satisfied, but exhausted look of "success!" (only forty-nine more Families to go!).
If you run across any entomologists this fall, give them a wide birth and don't get in their way -- they can be ruthless!
