Third Annual Darwin Day: a Celebration of Darwin's (199th) Birthday, February 6, 2008.
02/19/2008
This event was sponsored by the Evolutionary Studies Program, the Honors Program and the Evolutionary Studies Club. The Evolutionary Studies Program is multidisciplinary, with faculty participants from Biology, Geology, and Computer Engineering, as well as Psychology, Anthropology and Theater Arts. See: www.newpaltz.edu/evos/ for a description of the EvoS Minor program.
Our Darwin Day speaker this year was Professor Lionel Tiger, the Charles Darwin Professor of Anthropology at Rutgers University.

Students prepare their questions before Prof Tiger's afternoon talk.

Prof. Glenn Geher of the Psychology Department introduces Prof Tiger at his afternoon talk, which was entitled: The Evolution of Behavioral Sex Differences in Humans.

Prof Tiger chats with Dr. Christopher Lynn (SUNY Albany) prior to his evening talk.

Prof Tiger's evening talk was entitled, 'What Would Darwin Say?', which focused on how Darwin might feel about his influence on modern thought if he paid us a visit today.

Prof Tiger answers a question from the audience.

Both of Prof Tiger's talks were controversial (to say the least). Here, the audience continues the discussion after the formal evening talk. Such discussions and debates continued in the Evolutionary Studies Seminar and in classrooms throughout the campus for the better part of a week.
