FACTS
WAIT LIST: The registration system will not be providing wait lists for courses
- Unofficial ones may be run by faculty, staff and department secretaries on paper in their office. These will not guarantee students will be able to get in if an opening occurs. The minute someone drops a class, that seat will be available for the next person who tries to add the course.
- Faculty can no longer approve a student to get into a full course. Once the course is full - it is full.
PRE-REGISTRATION IN DEPARTMENTS: Pre-registration is no longer being done in department offices for majors. However, some departments will be entering course overrides into the system which will allow students can register themselves via the Web.
- Approvals are needed to register for certain courses. These can be obtained in advance so you will be able to register through the Web during your assigned time. Visit the secretary of the department offering the course in advance of your time assignment to ensure the proper approvals are put on your account.
TIME ASSIGNMENTS AND ARN'S (aka 'alternate PIN') are for undergraduate students only.
CONVERSION CHART FOR FIVE DIGIT COURSE NUMBERS to the new alpha-numeric course numbers can be found on www.newpaltz.edu/academics/descriptions.html
HOLDS: Students whose records are encumbered with institutional "HOLD(s)" placed by one or more University offices must report to the office that placed the hold and have the hold released. If this is not accomplished before advance registration, registration will not be possible. Therefore, it is best to take care of business and resolve the office HOLD(S). During advance registration periods, lines are usually very long at offices that place and remove holds. It is best not to wait until your scheduled registration day to clear a hold.
Please check your my.newpaltz.edu under Student Services (General) to view your holds. If necessary, please try to resolve any holds prior to advanced registration (April 20)
PROGRESS REPORTS: We previously reported that progress reports would continue to have the old 5-digit course numbers during the registration period for fall 2007 - they will now be the new 5-digit alpha-numeric course numbers.
FAQ's
What does "Registration Add Error - Duplicate CRN" mean?
If you drop a course on the Web, you may not re-register for it on the Web. You will need to go to the Records and Registration office in the
basement of the Haggerty Administration Building.
How do I convert course number 20215 to the new 5-digit alpha-numeric course number?
The first two digits are being replaced by a three letter department code. Go to www.newpaltz.edu/academics/descriptions.html, scroll down to the chart, and click on the "2-digit department code" header to sort by that column. Look for number "20" and see the three letter code (BUS) in the same row to the left.
Why does the Graduate School online catalog still have the old course numbers?
This catalog is currently being revised to reflect the new course numbers. NOTE: The catalog was updated to reflect the new course numbers on Friday, April 6, 2007.

- NR = not available for registration - means that the current date/time doesn't fall within valid registration dates for the particular course
- SR = student restriction - means student is restricted from registered by their time assignment, student status, academic standing, holds or readmit term
