Coming Soon: An all new my.newpaltz.edu
In early July when you go to my.newpaltz.edu, it will look a little different. Don't be alarmed! You will use your same userid and password (NPCUID) and the features you use regularly will still be inside.
The new my.newpaltz.edu is part of the college's conversion to Banner (the new student records system). This new Web interface is known as a portal. As the first step in the conversion process, you will soon login to the portal and find the original my.newpaltz.edu inside.
Beginning in July, when you login to my.newpaltz.edu you will also have access to other features you use regularly without having to login again, including NPmail and Blackboard. (This is known as "single sign-on access.") You will also have a new calendar system available to use. For the first time ever we will be offering students an electronic calendar. We will be able to set the academic calendar to be their base calendar, and they can add on their personal and course schedules to that.
Gradually over the next year and a half as pieces of Banner "go live," features in my.newpaltz.edu will change from the old system to the Banner version. We have a team of individuals from the entire campus working on this project, and one of our main goals is to ensure that most everything available in the current my.newpaltz.edu will be available in the Banner version. (This might prove to be a challenge and we won't know for sure until we have a better understanding of how Banner and the new portal work.)
This new portal will have many new enhancements and features that we've never been able to offer before. You will be able to subscribe to "channels," much like the boxes some of you are used to seeing in Blackboard. Some will be new tools, others will be fun additions, including live views of our various Webcams, news feeds from the Poughkeepsie Journal, Times Herald Record, and more.
We will be previewing this new portal during the May 11 faculty meeting.
If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Rachel Reuben, the team lead for this project.
