The all new my.newpaltz.edu
The all new my.newpaltz.edu is scheduled to go live on Friday. Those of you who attended the last faculty meeting saw a brief preview, but everyone will be able to explore it further at the end of this week. It will look quite different, but you'll use your same userid and password (NPCUID), and you won't have to select "I am a faculty/staff" member from the drop down menu! (This fact received quite the roaring applause from the crowd at the faculty meeting!)

New features will include a calendar, group sites (similar to communities on Blackboard), a customizable interface, and single-sign-on access to NPmail (not GroupWise) and Blackboard.

We will have several online video tutorials we're calling "My.Guides" that will be available within my.newpaltz.edu for you to learn and explore many of these new features.

Graduate School is live
The Graduate School went live with Banner on Monday morning. For the first time ever, prospective students can now apply online for the first time ever, as well as check their application status from this new site: http://applicants.newpaltz.edu/grad.

They are now processing both paper applications and online applications. Their goal is eventually to be paperless. They have been scanning and indexing paper applications for the past year in preparation of this change. Now that they are live they are integrating these scanned documents with the application information in Banner.

The Graduate School is still accepting students for the spring 2007 semester, and continue to use the legacy student records system for that process.

Graduate Coordinators will have access to the entire scanned application folder online. They will be reviewing applications as part of an easy-to-use digital workflow process. They will also be able to submit their admission decisions online. This workflow, designed by the Graduate Office, routes the application folder through all of the appropriate people and offices.

"I believe that self-service [the new Web site] will be a great draw for prospective graduate students. We hope that the addition of document imaging and workflow will eventually result in a smoother admissions process." said Vika Shock, assistant to the dean for The Graduate School and Banner project lead for the School.
