As a part of our green initiatives on campus, a goose herding Border Collie was purchased in 2011. You will be able to see him doing his job around campus with his trainer/handler Mike Malloy this spring and fall. Here are some interesting things you should know about our furry friend:

  • His name is Augie
  • He cost about $5,500
  • Augie is much more cost-effective than paying clean-up crews to follow the geese around
  • He was a rescued dog and was bought from a farm in West Virginia
  • He’s been specially trained to herd migrating Canadian Geese away from our campus grounds without harming them
  • He is very friendly
  • He is eight years old
  • His best friends are the ducks, so you don’t need to worry about him chasing them away
  • He loves his job
  • He loves New Paltz
