Kevin Joyce begins his first year as the head athletic trainer at SUNY New Paltz. In addition to the daily coverage of practices and games, he will be responsible for the development and the maintenance of the health care program for student-athletes. In particular, he will supervise the treatment of injuries and administer rehabilitative exercise. Joyce joins the New Paltz staff after spending four years as the assistant Athletic Trainer and strength coach at Plattsburgh State. Prior to Plattsburgh, Joyce spent two years as the assistant Athletic Trainer at Elmira College and worked as an athletic training intern at the United States Merchant Marine Academy for one year. He has served as an athletic trainer at the Empire State Games, has covered the Powell Brothers Lacrosse camp, has coordinated the medical coverage for the NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey National Championships and has worked multiple conditioning camps. He holds professional memberships in the Athletic Trainers' Society, the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He also holds certifications as a registered New York Athletic Trainer, the NATABOC as a licenses athletic trainer, and is a certified instructor for American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and CPR/FPR. Joyce received his bachelor's degree in human movement and sports science from Sacred Heart University in 2000 and completed a master's degree from Elmira in 2003.

Michelle Johnson will be joining the athletic training staff at SUNY New Paltz in the fall of 2008.
Johnson comes to SUNY New Paltz from the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York, where she served as an intern athletic trainer since 2007. At Buffalo, Johnson had the primary responsibility of covering the women’s volleyball team. She designed treatment and rehabilitation protocols, schedule appointments with team physicians, specialists, and student health centers and assisted in pre-participation physicals. She worked the New York State Collegiate Wrestling Championships, traveled with the women’s rowing and covered the women’s MAC Championship Swimming.
From 2005-2007, Johnson was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Buffalo, where she had primary responsibility for the women’s volleyball team coverage for home and away contests and practices.
Johnson spent 2003-2005 as a student athletic trainer at SUNY Brockport in Brockport, New York, where she assisted certified athletic trainers in home and away competition coverage for women’s gymnastics, varsity and junior varsity football, men’s varsity and junior varsity basketball and softball.
Johnson continues to be active in the community working Summer Camps at the University of Buffalo for volleyball and tennis campers and worked in New York State for the Physically Challenged at SUNY Brockport.
Johnson earned her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport in Physical Education, Concentration in Athletic Training in May 2005 and a master’s degree in Exercise Science in May 2007 from the University of Buffalo.
Johnson holds certifications in National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), New York State Licensure, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First AID through the American Red Cross.
