Women's swimmer Michelle Coombs and men's swimmer Zach Lowenstein have been named the SUNY New Paltz student-athletes of the week for the week ending February 10th.

Michelle Coombs (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) led the Hawks to a second place finish at the SUNYAC Championships. The Hawks finished with 607 points, behind Geneseo’s 801 points. Coombs was named the Outstanding Female Swimmer of the meet at the SUNYAC Championships after winning three individual events, and two relays. She won the 50 (23.72), 100 (51.83) and 200 (1:53.14) freestyle and was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:46.94) and the 400 medley relay (3:58.89). In addition, she was part of the 200 free relay (1:36.72) and the 400 free relay (3:33.51) which finished second. All four of the relays set new varsity records and the 200 medley relay made a national Acut time. Coombs was named to the All-Conference first team for her performance.
Sophomore Zach Lowenstein (Brick, NJ//Brick Twp) led the Hawks to a fourth place finish at the SUNYAC Championships. The New Paltz men finished with 472 points and were edged out of third place by two points, as Oswego posted 474 points. Lowenstein captured his first individual SUNYAC title in the 200 IM in 1:58.62. He took second in the 200 back (1:57.95) and fourth in the 100 back (54.83). Lowenstein was also part of the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay teams which finished third and the 400 free relay and 800 free relay which captured fourth. Lowenstein was named to the All-Conference first team for his performance.
