Women’s swimmer Michelle Coombs (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) and men’s swimmer Zack Lowenstein (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) have been selected as the SUNY New Paltz student-athletes of the week for the week ending January 13th.

Sophomore Zack Lowenstein (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) won the 200 IM (2:04.05) and touched third in the 200 back (2:04.05) at the Kump Invite on Saturday as the Hawks finished fourth out of seven teams with 351 points. Lowenstein teamed up with David Gardner, Patrick Rathbun and Billy Papetti for a fourth place finish in the 400 free relay (3:21.78). On Wednesday, Lowenstein swam to a third place finish in the 100 back (57.49) against Geneseo.
Michelle Coombs (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) paced New Paltz by winning three individual events against Geneseo, setting pool records in all of them and was a part of a winning relay. She won the 50 free (24.64), 100 free (53.41), and the 200 free (1:55.86). Coombs teamed with Marissa Morris, Christine Rieth and Allison Wells to win the 400 free relay (3:39.11).
