Athletic and Wellness Center

The Athletic and Wellness Center at SUNY New Paltz opened its doors for a grand opening on March 28, 2006.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 7, 2003, for the construction of the 57,000 square-foot building, which is connected to Elting Gymnasium.

Student activity spaces within the building include a cardiovascular wellness center at one semi-circle end and a weight training fitness center at the other end. These two areas are connected with a window-lined walking/jogging track that encircles a premium, competition wood gym floor. The court area serves as the home for the Division-III men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs, as well as general student activities.
"This is an exciting time for New Paltz," said Stuart Robinson, director of athletics. "The new facility will not only meet the needs of our student-athletes and coaches, but also the campus community as a whole.
It's a huge step forward for the college and it puts us on par with many of the schools that we compete against."
Also as a part of the project, a new west-side campus entrance was built along with additional parking lots. These changes have eased traffic conditions in the Village of New Paltz.
The entire complex is fully air-conditioned and designed to promote health and fitness for all. The project had an estimated cost of $25 million.
