About New York
Conference on Asian Studies
The New York Conference on Asian Studies is the oldest of the eight regional conferences of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), the largest society of its kind in the world. NYCAS is represented on the Council of Conferences, one of the sub-divisions of the governing body of the AAS, and speaks for all persons interested in any branch of Asian Studies in the State of New York.
Membership in NYCAS is open to all persons interested in Asian Studies. It draws its membership primarily from New York State and welcomes participants from any region interested in its activities. All persons registering for the annual meeting pay a membership fee to NYCAS, and are considered members eligible to participate in the annual business meeting and to vote in all NYCAS elections for that year. The membership will be asked to elect members to fill vacancies on the Executive Board, and to decide the location of future conferences. The membership is invited to submit nominations for vacancies on the Executive Board to the Executive Secretary:

The Asian Studies Program at Skidmore College creates
opportunities for
students to examine multiple facets of the cultures, traditions and contemporary realities of Asian countries and peoples. The Asian Studies major is interdisciplinary, with a significant language component, and opportunities for the direct interaction with an Asian culture. Our India Consortium Program has been extraordinarily successful and the newly established Skidmore Beijing Program will soon offer a unique curriculum for study abroad experiences.
As one of the strongest interdisciplinary programs that
Skidmore
currently offers, the Asian Studies Program presently
contributes 75%
of the courses toward fulfilling the non-Western culture
requirement in the curriculum, serving around 300 students each semester. We
take pride in our dedicated faculty and our fine students and graduates.
You are invited to learn more about our Asian Studies
Program and its
scholarly and cultural events offered to both Skidmore
students and the surrounding community.
As a conference participant, you will receive a visitor’s
parking pass upon registration. This will allow you to park in any of the lots
on campus. Be sure to place this pass in clear view on your car’s dashboard to
avoid getting a ticket or being towed.
A Skidmore College bus will be available to return you to
your hotel after the Friday evening performance and then pick you up again
from your hotel on Saturday morning.
Friday, October 25, 10pm Bus will leave from Sports
Center and drop off passengers at the Sheraton, Downtowner, Holiday Inn, and
Hilton Gardens.
Saturday, October 26, 8am Bus will pick up participants
at the Hilton Gardens (8:00), Holiday Inn (8:10), Downtowner (8:20), and
Sheraton (8:30).
