Chinese Literature and Language
The Department of English at SUNY New Paltz invites applications for
a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant/Associate Professor
level, starting Fall 2007. PhD in Comparative, Chinese, or East Asian
literature (or ABD with degree conferral no later than 8/07), along
with native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and full
fluency in English, are required. We seek candidates with a strong
commitment to excellent teaching and serious scholarship. The successful
candidate will teach undergraduate courses in world literature (especially
in comparative myth and epic), Asian literature in translation, and
one Chinese language course each semester. Appointment will be in the
English Department with responsibilities to the interdisciplinary Asian
Studies Program and to the Department of Foreign Languages. Deadline:

Japanese Literature and Language
The Department of Foreign Languages at the State University of New York,
New Paltz invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship
in Japanese language and literature, to begin Spring or Fall 2007. Research
specialization open. Teaching will include language at all levels, along
with literature and culture courses in English translation. The successful
candidate will coordinate Asian language instruction, promote study of
Japanese and Chinese, advise students on study abroad, and play an active

Economics - Asia Pacific
The Department
of Economics at SUNY–New Paltz invites applications
from broadly trained economists for a full-time, tenure-track position
at the Assistant Professor level, starting in Fall 2007. Ph.D. and teaching
experience are required. ABD will be considered if the date of defense
is prior to September 2007. Research specialization must be applied in
nature, and focus on Macroeconomics and Monetary Economics with an emphasis
on the Asia Pacific region. Teaching responsibilities would include Macroeconomics,
Economic Development of Asia Pacific Region, International Trade and
Finance, and a lower division General Education course on the Economics
of Globalization. Responsibilities include participation in the department’s
ongoing summer program with the Istanbul Technical University, with some
shared administrative duties. An active interest in research and publication

History of South Asia / Southeast Asia
The Department of History at the State University of New York-New Paltz
invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in South
Asian history, to begin Fall 2007. Candidates with interests in Central
Asia, Southeast Asia, or Indian Ocean region are encouraged to apply.
Research specialization open; pre-19th century especially welcome. Teaching
will include a South Asia survey and courses to be developed in the candidate's
area of specialization, primarily at the undergraduate level, with some
graduate teaching for programs in secondary education and social studies.
The successful applicant will build a curriculum in South Asian history
in conjunction with the Department of History and the Asian Studies Program.

Asian Philosophy and Religion
The Department of Philosophy at the State University of New York at
New Paltz invites applications for the post of Assistant Professor of
Philosophy. This is a tenure track position, beginning Fall 2007. Applicants
must specialize in an area of Asian philosophy and religion; a broad
competence in these fields is expected, including competence to teach
introductory philosophy incorporating non-western perspectives. Competence
in western philosophical traditions is preferred; competence in Islam
is desirable. Ph.D. preferred. Duties include undergraduate teaching,
committees, and participation in department and university life. Salary
