The Visual Resources Library

The department has a wide-ranging and continually updated collection of 80,000 slides, maintained and developed by a full-time slide curator. Slides seen in class are available for review in the Visual Resources Library, as well as on-line. There is also a growing collection of art videos and CDs-ROM. A computer lab also provides student access to the Internet for the study and retrieval of images. The slide collection is currently in the process of being digitized.

Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art

The department also utilizes the resources of SUNY New Paltz's new, state-of-the-art Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, which has an active schedule of exhibitions of the art of the past and present, as well as a permanent collection with particular strengths in American and Asian art. On occasion classes meet in the museum. Museum studies courses are coordinated by the staff of the Dorsky Museum and provide students with the opportunity to work extensively with the collection and to assist in organizing exhibitions.
