The breadth of courses offered by the Art History Department at SUNY New Paltz, exploring art from prehistoric times to the present, and covering art from nearly all areas of the world, is rarely found at four-year colleges.
Undergraduate and graduate-level classes are conducted through slide lectures and seminars that explore visual forms and the cultures that produced them. In addition, field trips to major museums and historic sites in New York City and the region provide on-site instruction and first-hand experience of works of art and architecture.
At present, there is no graduate program in Art History. However, the Art History department offers graduate-level courses that are designed expressly to fulfill the requirements of other graduate programs on campus.
