Assistant professor Aaron Knochel has worked in a variety of art learning spaces from schools to museums both domestically and internationally. He completed a PhD in Art Education at The Ohio State University, an MAAE at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a BA at Augustana College. He has presented his research at a range of national and international conferences including the National Art Education Association National Convention and at the International Society for Education through Art World Congress. Aaron was also chosen as a 2011 Digital Media and Learning Summer Research Institute Fellow funded by the MacArthur Foundation.
Dr. Knochel's research focuses on the intersections between art education, social theory, and media literacy discourse. From community-based media production to engaging digital visual culture in the K-12 art classroom, his interests follow the complexities of civic engagement both through the arts and through network connectivity.

Jessica Poser received her Ed.D and MEd from Harvard University, her MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and her BA from The University of Chicago. Her scholarly interests include community-based arts, contemporary art curriculum and critical pedagogy. She directs the Kingston Art Lab, an interdisciplinary art program for teens in Kingston, NY. She has presented her research in a range of venues both national and international.
Her artwork explores themes of place and materiality; her images and objects are made in a variety of media and are constructed through processes traditionally associated with craft. She is a member of the artist collaborative Habitat for Artists. Her work has been exhibited extensively throughout the northeast and the mid-west. Her publications include: Contemporary Craft: The Look of Labor in Art Education, the Journal of the National Art Education Association.

Professor Beth Thomas has over 20 years of teaching experience, including work in community arts settings and 14 years teaching art in P-12 schools. She holds a B.A. in Art Education from the University of Cincinnati, and an M.A. in Education from The Ohio State University. After completing her doctoral work at The Ohio State University, Dr. Thomas worked at the Maryland Institute College of Art as a faculty member in both the Master of Arts in Teaching and Master of Arts in Art Education programs. Her artwork has been exhibited in venues in Ohio and Kentucky including the Dairy Barn Art Center (Athens, OH), Carnegie Art Center (Covington, KY), F-stop Gallery (Columbus, OH), and the Machine Shop Gallery (Cincinnati, Ohio).
Dr. Thomas’s research interests include metaphor and psychoanalytic theory as they apply to art education theory and practice; teacher development; teacher research; and communities of practice. Her published writings have appeared in the journals Studies in Art Education and Visual Arts Research as well as in the edited volume Perspectives on Creativity.

Professor Wexler teaches courses in studio methods and artistic development, instructional resources in art education, and art for exceptional children and adults. Her research focuses on the art making practices of exceptional children and adults, and on the integration of text and image in art works made by children and adolescents. Professor Wexler's writing in these areas has been published in Studies in Art Education and Art Education. She is currently at work on a book based on children with special needs in alternative settings.
Professor Wexler has presented on her research nationally and has received awards in support of her work, including a Faculty Development Award to support her research on the art of exceptional adults at the G.R.A.C.E. facility in Vermont (2001). Professor Wexler, a painter, has exhibited extensively. She received an award for her painting from the National Arts Club (1995).
Professor Wexler received a B.F.A. from Boston University, an M.F.A. from the Royal College of Art, and an Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University.
